Blue Bell Ice Cream’s Southern Hospitality
Jun 1st, 2008 by prissycook

Blue Bell and I go way back. When I got pulled over for my first time for speeding, the officer said, “I clocked you going 60 back there by the creamery (aka, Blue Bell).” For a 16 year old, those words would change life as I knew it. I would after that night, proceed to get myself grounded for a few months. Cry my eyes out because my parents didn’t understand me and swear that they were out to ruin MY LIFE. Fast forward 15 years later, and that IS still one of their most favorite stories to tell about my tumultuous teenage years.
And even with the coincidence that one of my lowest moments as a teenager happened to have a landmark like the Blue Bell creamery, I still don’t bear any hard feelings towards the ice cream, if anything, I’ve grown to love it even more! So, the fact that I can get it in Arizona makes me happy.
More than ever, Blue Bell is introducing more flavors, than I’ve ever seen. I think it has something to do with their Centennial celebrations. Southern Hospitality is a special, I’m afraid to predict, one time offering. It was created by a lady in South Carolina as part of a 17 state ice cream competition. And to Mrs. Hegley, who submitted the winning flavor combination, thank you!
I do NOT know how an ice cream could get any better than Blue Bell’s new Southern Hospitality. Click the images below to see more on my Blue Bell experiences:

It’s funny how whatever a person grows up with is what they stick with. Being from Vermont, I’m still Ben and Jerry’s all the way…
Oh, I love BB so very much. I was so happy when it came to Phoenix about 3 years ago. I changed my world. Now I’m in VA and can’t get it. Moving to Chicago and can’t get it there either, I’m afraid. Southern Hospitality is intriguing. I always want to try new things, but French Vanilla is my fav. And Cookies and Cream, and Pecan Praline, too.
The BB Southern Hospitality is my new favorite. They only leave one half gallon per store in my neck of the woods. We have 2 stores near me so I get out early and hit them both for 2 half gallons of Southern Hospitality. MMMMMM GOOD
I live in Baton Rouge, Louisiana and can’t find Southern Hospitality at any of the stores in this area. I remember seeing it, but was afraid to try it. Our daughter took her dad to the Brenham factory, tasted it, and loved it. Came back to Houston and found it in one of the supermarkets. I have looked high and low in BR and can’t find it anywhere. Please recommend to the stores in the BR area to order some more. I MUST have some!!!
I want to know where in Florida-33444 area I can find Southern Hospitality ice cream?
Hi Monica- I’m sure exactly if it’s available in your zip code. I did some research, I hope this helps: http://prissycook.com/wordpress/2010/04/28/where-can-i-find-blue-bell-ice-cream/
Live in Olathe, KS, a suburb of Kansas city. A friend got me so excited over trying sumer berries, and southern hospitality. We can’t find it at our stores….
Southern Hospitality
I would have agreed with you last year, but this summer, 2010, Blue bell has changed the recipe. They’ve all but eliminated the pecans, and substituted huge chunks of frozen pineapple. Last summer this ice cream was the best I’ve ever had with small bits of pineapple and lots of pecan pieces, this summer, yuck. I was SO disappointed when I opened the carton to find no pecans.
To Wayne 1…not many of us grew up with Bluebell, since it was confined to a VERY small area until the 1980’s. I can assure you of one thing though…there is only one of two reasons you prefer Ben & Jerry’s
1. You have never had Blue Bell
2. You are too prideful to admit something could actually be better than Ben & Jerry’s
we get Ben & Jerry’s…they have some good stuff, but they have NOTHING that compares to Bluebell’s Homemade Vanilla…nobody does…I have to put Bluebell as #1 followed closely by Häagen-Dazs…Ben & Jerry’s is somewhere around #6 or 7
