Blue Bell Ice Cream Review: Banana Split
Jul 27th, 2008 by prissycook
I don’t give people the bird often. I remember the first time I did and I was amazed at how quickly that little finger just popped up! I was living in Dallas at the time, for those familiar with the area, I was working in Irving and living in the M-Street district close to downtown. It was Texas/OU Weekend and the roads were packed with crazy college football fans for the Red River Shootout. People were hyped up and not a stretch to say DRUNK.
So, I’m driving home on Friday and I just passed Texas Statdium, when this truck of rowdy Okies was pacing my car, theirs painted with OU all over it. They would slow down to pace with cars and hang their heads out the window, yell “Go Oklahoma” or something like that and move onto the next car. I knew it was my turn. They had started pacing my car and I knew they were getting ready to yell, “Whooooo Gooooooo Soooooooners.” It wasn’t preplanned. I’m not a finger flipper, but as they were shouting, I just looked left and shot them the bird.
I was so freaking scared. You know that whole concept of your mouth writing checks your butt can’t cash? Well, thats where I was. Like OMG, what if they rammed me or started to follow me, YIKES. Luckily, they didn’t hardly notice and moved onto the next vehicle.
I have made these friends in Phoenix, Chris and Steph, they’re Yankees and he H8S (get it, get it H8) Texas. And every time we start talking about Texas sports, culture, cities, he’ll say, “No offense of course, ” and start bashing on my peeps.
It seems that my middle finger seems to pop up around Chris more often too. I think 2 times now, I’ve flipped him the bird.
I took an opportunity a few weekends ago to interrupt Chris’ usual Texas bashing and ask him if he’s ever tried Blue Bell Ice Cream. I shared a little history about the little creamery in Brenham and scooped him a bowl.

I’m not going to claim victory in making a hard core Mariner love Texas, but I did get a few approving head nods while he was trying a bit of Blue Bell’s Banana Pudding.
Banana Pudding is a seasonal flavor. What I like best about this one is that the:
- Banana flavor is pronounced and doesn’t taste artificial
- Vanilla wafers still have a crunch

OH my BLUE BELL!!!!!!!! Oh how I miss the best ice cream in the country!!! I moved away from Texas 15 years ago but every time I go to visit family guess who raids the grocery store to consume as much as my belly will allow me? Thank goodness Banana Pudding is in season this month because I am soon to make a trip “back home”. Now if I could just find my beloved Fudge Brownie Nut my life would be complete :).
I do love Blue Belle, and I do LOVE bananas, so what’s not to love about this new flavor? I’ma gonna pick me some up soon!
