Sock Knitting: Part 1

Let’s be very clear. I’m a baker not a knitter. So the fact that I’ve decided to start knitting came out of left field. I’ve managed to learn some basic stitches, but not so much that I recognize what I’m doing. Which leaves me doing the wide eyed head nod a lot of times when an educated knitter asks me about which cast on methods I use or which type of stitches I’m using on my current project.
The knitting book Mel got me for Christmas doesn’t mention using your mouth or toes in conjunction with your knitting and I’ve use the whole combination just to get one row on my needles. So, the fact that I’ve signed up for a sock knitting class is quickly starting to become overwhelming.
My teacher, Lori, is a patient lady, and it’s beyond me how someone can look at a knitting project and tell where you are in your pattern. She’s teaching us a traditional German 5 needle sock pattern. How did I not notice that one small detail; Five freaking needles! I have a hard time with 2 much less 5.
It kinda makes me nervous that I purchased all this yarn last weekend at KnitPurl. The pair of socks I’m knitting right now, including the cost of the class will cost me $89. Have you ever worn an $89 pair of socks? ME EITHER!
What you see here is my progress after 2 hours of knitting. At one point a lady looked over at me and said, “Knitting is supposed to be relaxing.”

It will get better the more you do. Love the yarn you have chosen. You’ll not forget these socks in a hurry.
My daughters are both crocheters. I can neither knit nor crochet. I can see why you’d need the Dos XX’s Cerveza close at hand!
