Benevolent Blogger: Giving knowledge
Oct 5th, 2008 by prissycook
I never thought I’d be able to tie in a Smoky and the Bandit analogy into a presentation for the Junior League, but I did it. I also mentioned my obsession with Hugh and Ice Road Truckers (that story was way off topic).
Earlier this year I was asked if I could present something at a regional conference for the Junior League. I love training, so its always a treat when you get an opportunity to create something you want to teach about. I was given a blank slate.
I chose to present on the topic of Social Media. I felt this topic was relevant because as a League, we’re working on how to connect to our new generation of members; The Millienials. I felt that I needed to organize material in a way that someone from the Baby Boomer and Generation X could connect with and to the the concept of how social could be leveraged in a volunteer group. I was also banking on a general comfort level with social media at a 5 on scale of 1-10.
I was so proud of how things went with the topic, the discussion and the feedback I received afterwards. I felt so much personally at stake and I was a ball of nerves. I hope each person who chose to attend this session walked away with a little more knowledge about how to leverage these tools in their volunteer efforts.
This is my September commitment to the Benevolent Blogger Project.
